The Department of Sociology and Criminology is seeking a motivated and professional Administrative Support Assistant to aid in coordinating its undergraduate programs and to perform various administrative and front office duties vital to department functioning. Primary responsibilities will include serving as first point of contact for matters associated with the department’s 5 undergraduate programs (4 majors and 1 minor at University Park and World Campus), assisting students with enrollment in controlled courses and independent studies, graduation verification processes, grade changes, and other administrative tasks. The person in this position also works closely with three Academic Advisors to manage degree audit reviews, course substitutions, and other issues. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with the Department’s Associate Head and Directors of Undergraduate Studies, as well as the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies Office, to manage the department’s robust portfolio of course offerings (approximately 100 sections per semester). Other responsibilities include, among other things, assembling data on the department’s undergraduate population, coordinating departmental commencement activities, and providing back-up support for the department’s Front Office Coordinator, which may encompass answering a multi-line telephone, managing conference room calendars, greeting and assisting walk-in visitors, managing supplies inventory, and sorting incoming and outgoing mail. The working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with LionPATH, iTwo, CollegeNet, WorkLion, and eBuy are strongly preferred. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel in particular) is required. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organization skills are critical, as are attention to detail, a strong customer service orientation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The successful candidate will possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as an openness to improving and streamlining existing processes and procedures. This position requires self-direction, initiative, personal accountability, and leadership.
