Responsible for performing histological and animal procedures in the Center for Neural Engineering's Optical Neuroscience Lab; also responsible for lab safety and writing lab protocols, writing internal and external reports; document experimental results and procedures involved for publication; present research and specialized research presentations to lab members; interact with appropriate safety representatives (i.e. Environmental Health and Safety) to identify and or correct safety issues; participate, and make appropriate level presentations, in lab meetings to discuss scientific research; manage lab supplies and materials; responsible for own purchasing card usage and submission of purchase documents to bookkeeper. Meet weekly with supervisor to discuss goals, action items, and outcomes. Interact with undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs in support of on-going research. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's preferred in science, biology, chemistry, physics, or engineering with a basic understanding of genetics; experience with rodent surgical procedures, mouse breeding and histology, lab safety and stocking experience. The successful candidate should be able to work semi-independently and actively identify and solve research and development issues. Reports to PI and interacts with 5-8 graduate students and postdocs. Must work cooperatively with undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and other PIs and senior personnel in the administration of research equipment. Employment must be able to write and speak clearly in English. Must be able to diagnose and analyze histological and animal procedures. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of re-funding.
