Penn State’s Office of Strategic Communications is seeking an ambitious, self-motivated undergraduate student for an internship position in summer 2019 to contribute to Penn State-branded social media efforts. Candidates must have an interest in the use of social media for communications purposes and public relations, as well as experience with a variety of social media platforms. Typical daily duties include writing, editing and curating interesting social media posts related to Penn State. Successful candidate will also assist with various public relations programs/campaigns. Qualified student candidates must possess excellent news judgment, knowledge of AP style, a strong work ethic, the highest level of discretion regarding proprietary and sensitive information and an interest in planning. Candidates should demonstrate Web-writing skills, basic photo skills, and the ability to self-manage and meet firm deadlines. The intern will work in Penn State’s Office of Social Media, which manages the University’s official accounts on multiple platforms. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to suggest and, with guidance, find or create content for several platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, LinkedIn and Instagram. Other duties include evaluating analytics, as well as taking photos and collaborating with other Penn State units. The position will require approximately 10-15 hours per week.
