First Year Seminar Undergraduate Peer Assistant (UPA) attends their assigned PSU 1 section class period and provides approximately 3 hours of support for the course each week. The UPA prepares and gives occasional presentations to the class and mentors the first-year students by providing individual support, typically in the form of a weekly office hour. The UPA will also contribute weekly observations, reflections, and feedback to the instructor and the First Year Seminar Coordinator for assessment of the course. A UPA must be a current Penn State Abington undergraduate student, preferable one who has already undergone some leadership training, such as for Resident Assistant or New Student Orientation Mentor. Preference will be given to applicants who are recommended by the faculty instructor or who have served as a UPA in previous semesters.
