This position is anticipated to be based at the Lehigh Valley Penn State Extension Office in Allentown with weekly travel to Perry county and additional trips to Philadelphia and New York City. The home Extension office could be adjusted based on the successful candidate’s location. Intern with Penn State Extension’s Energy, Business, and Community Vitality team and gain first-hand experience in the supply chain at a rural farm that focuses on Angora goats for fiber production. Immerse in the connections between production, processing and distribution as this fiber producer looks to strengthen their regional supply chain and marketing efforts. The intern will gain experience in market and value chain analysis, assisting in the decision-making process. An expected outcome of this internship opportunity is a better appreciation for the intimate connection and dependence between rural, suburban and urban communities. The specifics of this internship opportunity center on more effective marketing of mohair products. The Project Host is a mohair producer with several years’ experience processing, distributing and marketing various clothing items. Continued growth of this business presents challenges for deeper understanding of current and potential customers needs as well as exploring an appropriate social media strategy. Intern supervisor and project host are seeking a student interested in strategic planning for marketing and market development to enhance the sustainability of a regional fiber producer. Must have an eye for the bigger picture and a dedication to understanding the current business landscape. Working with supervisor on this unique project, the successful intern will bring a passion for learning, self-motivation, and a desire to serve our agricultural community. This 9-week internship begins on June 10 and ends on August 9. This commitment averages 24 hours a week at $15.00/hour. Please submit your resume, cover letter, and 2 letters of recommendation.
