The Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park) invites applications for a three-year, full-time non-tenure track position in Spanish to begin in August, 2019, with excellent possibility of renewal. Responsibilities include teaching language courses and undergraduate courses in Spanish linguistics and general linguistics. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the Department Head on different projects concerning the Spanish major and minor programs. This position requires excellent command of global competency and intercultural communication practices with an ability to prepare effective curricula. Additional skillsets include strategic communication planning, understanding of higher education, organizational expertise, and experience working with database software. The successful candidate will have previously designed, developed, and executed new and innovative programs for diverse audiences, and will have developed assessment strategies to evaluate effectiveness of programming. Acumen of current student engagement initiatives and best practices is required, as well as a proven record of successful student-based program development. Experience working and living abroad is preferred; ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds required. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in English and Spanish and must hold a PhD degree in Spanish. Applications from individuals with prior teaching experience will be given priority.
