Penn State is seeking an innovative and customer-focused fleet professional to manage the Fleet Vehicles operation within Transportation Services. Reporting to the Director and Associate Director of the department, the Manager, Fleet Vehicles will play a key role within the Transportation Services management team, with overall responsibility for the entire life cycle of the department’s 500-vehicle fleet. This includes vehicle purchase, maintenance and repair scheduling, optimizing fleet availability and utilization for daily and long-term rentals, and coordination of vehicle sales. The Manager, Fleet Vehicles will also oversee vehicle fueling operations, with a focus on utilizing sustainable and alternative fuels when possible while maintaining a cost-effective operation that provides the right mix of safe and dependable vehicles to the University community. The successful candidate will supervise a staff of two fleet professionals involved in vehicle dispatch while working closely with the Manager, Fleet Services in the oversight and direction of a team of professional drivers and fuel and car wash attendants. In this role, the Manager, Fleet Vehicles will serve as a liaison with leaders and fleet users from a variety of university departments and state agencies, managing the needs of various stakeholder groups and communicating with these users on policy and procedure changes, as well as service issues. Collaborative, customer-focused, and driven by the goal of continual improvement, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in vehicle repair and maintenance, as well as quality control. In addition to exceptional technical skills and management abilities, the candidate must have a passion for delivering high-quality service, the ability to develop and mentor staff, and the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and administrators. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated competencies in the following areas will be required: use of computers for data management, inventory control, maintenance work orders, fleet management. Experience ensuring compliance with state vehicle emissions laws, state vehicle registration/titling and insurance requirements is also preferred. Accreditation as a Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) is preferred.
