A Student Transitional Experiences Program (STEP) Mentor is an upper-class undergraduate student who acts as a constant resource and positive role model for incoming juniors to University Park who enroll in the program. A Mentor is expected to assist students in transitioning to University Park through academic support/guidance and social integration. In addition to these extremely important expectations, a Mentor works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide STEP students with a rewarding and memorable Penn State experience. The Mentor position is a challenging yet rewarding position that is suitable for student leaders who have a desire to positively affect the lives of other Penn State students. To qualify for the position, you must be a full-time student at the University Park campus, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application and at the end of the spring 2019 semester and be able to commit to training on Sunday, June 23, 2019 and up to 10 hours of work per week during the second summer session, June 26 – August 9, 2019. These hours may include evening and weekend activities. Successful candidates must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, and sincere in representing Penn State and the Student Transitional Experiences Program.
