The Undersea Systems Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is looking for two (2) Engineering Support Specialists to join our Mechanical Engineering Support Department, part of the Vehicles and Unmanned Systems Division. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting in the design, assembly, rework, and testing of mechanical systems; selection/purchase of materials, interacting with vendors, writing procedures; Installation, calibration, operation, and/or maintenance of standard and non-standard equipment in the laboratory or in the field; and work as part of a test project support team in the laboratory or in the field. This position requires working in an industrial area with sometimes large, heavy, and noisy equipment. Travel to field sites is necessary. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. An Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology and or Military technical training is preferred. Experience with the following is preferred: PC Literacy and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, Siemens NX, Solid Works, or other similar CAS programs is desired. A background in pneumatics, electrical systems, hydraulics, or underwater systems is a plus. Experience with the following is required: mechanical systems design, assembly, test, and troubleshooting; proficiency with the operation of various machine shop and hand tools, precision measurements, drawing interpretation, and detailed mechanical assembly with adherence to procedures. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year fixed-term renewable appointment.
