Description

The research laboratory of Dr. Shaun Mahony, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, seeks undergraduate student applicants for a 2019 Summer semester Bioinformatics Programmer position. The successful applicant will join a team of researchers in addressing the ENCODE Imputation Challenge. The goal of this project is to predict the locations of gene regulatory processes along the genome and across different cell types. We will be taking this challenge with a novel machine learning platform, trained using massive collections of regulatory genomics datasets. Duties associated with the Bioinformatics Programmer position will include assisting in the development of our machine learning applications and applying them to impute missing genomic datasets. This part-time position is for up to 40 hours a week for 12 weeks. Expertise with a common programming language (e.g. Python, R, C++, or Java) is required. Experience with Linux preferred.
