Penn State Health is recruiting Counselors (Student Interns) for part time work in the 2019 Summer Treatment Program (STP) for children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The Summer Treatment Program is an empirically supported treatment program for 7-11 year old children with ADHD, ODD, and/or CD that is implemented in a summer day camp setting. The STP will be held at the Penn State Harrisburg Campus in Middletown, PA. Interns are typically undergraduate students majoring in psychology, social work, education, or related fields. Counselors work together to implement treatment with small groups of children. Counselors implement behavior modification during recreational activities (e.g., soccer, softball, basketball) and also provide children social skills training, and problem solving training. Counselors also plan activities and design treatment modifications to meet the needs of individual children. Prior behavioral health experience with children not required. All aspects of the internships are supervised by licensed psychologists. Interns typically gain 200 hours of experience providing treatment directly to children. Opportunities or participating in behavioral parent training and in weekly didactics are also available (but not required). Interns complete 2 weeks of training before the start of treatment and receive ongoing supervision. Intern training begins around June 10, through June 21, 2019. The STP plans on running from approximately Monday June 24, and continues through Friday July 26, 2019. The final week of employment is set to be around July 29 through August 2, 2019, and will be used for program wrap-up (data management, report-writing, etc.) It should be noted that July 4, 2019, will be an unpaid holiday. Interns typically work Mondays from 7:45 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., but these times can be variable based on the work that day/week. Successful applicants must pass or show proof of the three publically available clearances (PA State Police, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprinting).
