Penn State Health is recruiting Lead Counselors for part time work in the 2019 Summer Treatment Program (STP) for children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The Summer Treatment Program is an empirically supported treatment program for 7-11 year old children with ADHD, ODD, and/or CD that is implemented in a summer day camp setting. The STP will be held at the Penn State Harrisburg Campus in Middletown, PA. Lead Counselors are typically graduate-level students from clinical psychology, school psychology, education, social work, or related programs experienced working with children. Lead Counselors will work with 4 to 5 undergraduate counselors to deliver treatment to a group of 12 children with ADHD. Lead Counselors will oversee all aspects of treatment and will provide immediate supervision to undergraduate counselors. During staff training, Lead Counselors will also assist program staff members in training undergraduate counselors in the token economy/point system, time out procedures, social skills, and problem-solving training procedures and review clinical records of the children with whom they will be working during the Summer Treatment Program (STP). All aspects of the internships are supervised by licensed psychologists. Interns typically gain 200 hours of experience providing treatment directly to children. Opportunities or participating in behavioral parent training and in weekly didactics are also available (but not required). Interns complete 2 weeks of training before the start of treatment and receive ongoing supervision. Intern training begins around June 10, 2019 through June 21, 2019. The Summer Treatment Program plans on running from approximately Monday, June 24, 2019, and continues through Friday, July 26, 2019. The final week of employment is set to be around July 29, 2019 through August 2, 2019 and will be used for program wrap-up (data management, report-writing, etc.). It should be noted that July 4, 2019, will be an unpaid holiday. Interns typically work Mondays from 7:45 a.m. - 6:30 p.m, Tuesday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:45 a.m. - 1:00 pm, but these times can be variable based on the work that day/week. Successful applicants must pass or show proof of the three publicly available clearances (PA State Police, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprinting).
