The Center for Orthopaedic Research and Translational Science (CORTS) at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Post-Doctoral Scholar. The laboratory focuses currently on mechanisms of peripheral neural trauma, neuro muscular atrophy, and muscle function. Studies include in vivo and in vitro experiments in rodents. The candidate should have a background and or career interest in nerve and muscle regeneration, neuro or orthopaedic trauma. Studies require small animal surgery and various standard biological analyses. Candidates for this position should have an advanced degree (either MD or PhD) in applied physiology, biochemistry, biology, engineering or related fields with proven expertise in both qualitative and quantitative analysis of histological samples of muscles and nerves, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, and molecular biology (qPCR, RT-PCR, Western blotting). Solid experience in these methods and our areas of interest along with a documented publication history are required, experience with functional testing of nerve regeneration and nerve conduction velocity with small animals is a plus. In addition to contributing to ongoing research projects, training in biological and animal surgery techniques is available for outstanding candidates. Candidates should be independently motivated, creative, have a desire to learn/develop new techniques and approaches. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills. This position is open to recent graduates only (within two years of advanced degree). The candidate should also be proficient at multitasking, prioritizing responsibilities, managing time, and interacting with all levels of staffs in a multicultural environment.
