The Summer College Opportunity Program in Education (S.C.O.P.E.) invites applications for an Academic Support Coordinator position. The Academic Support Coordinator oversees the coordination of comprehensive and integrated academic support. In collaboration with the program instructors, the Coordinator will develop strategies to address individual academic needs and to assist in the development of skills and confidence necessary for student success. This position will require a well-informed approach to issues regarding academic development as well as students` academic language and learning styles. The Academic Support Coordinator will supervise 2 to 4 tutors that will assist in providing instructional support and in the supervision of students during mandatory study hours. Applicants should possess a four-year degree; ability to design individual and prescriptive action plans for students to increase their academic skill; ability to evaluate and document student progress; ability to supervise, engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn; sensitivity to students of diverse backgrounds; sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks, be flexible and work as part of a team; excellent work ethic with strong problem-solving abilities; effective organizational skills and be comfortable using computer and instructional technology. Preference will be given to applicants who are graduate students enrolled in the College of Education at Penn State University; has prior experience in student success services, such as advising at risk populations, mentoring, tutoring, and alternative learning support programs, study skills development and coaching; college teaching experience; previous experience working with diverse learners and similar bridge programs. This position is for the 4 week summer program duration. Applicants should be expected to commit to 15-20 hours of work per week.
