This internship is a research and planning position for ongoing projects in the Palmer’s curatorial department, including research, collections management and exhibition planning. The main focus will be to research a group of new acquisitions to the Palmer’s collection to create object files with information about artists, subject matter, and historical context. Specific duties of this position will include: research art and artists related to the Palmer’s American art collection; participate in ongoing collection management projects including cataloguing new acquisitions and correcting existing records; assist with drafting interpretive text; assist with acquisition of rights for image reproduction; fact-check object files in preparation for exhibition and publication. This position may also participate as needed with gallery installation projects and public programs. This internship is made possible by the Annie Gooding Sykes Internship endowment. To be eligible for this position, you must be a Penn State student in Art History, the School of Visual Arts, Women’s Studies, or American Studies and have achieved superior academic records. The Palmer Museum of Art is able to offer paid internships during the summer semester for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. Summer interns are required to work 20 hours per week at the museum for six weeks (exact dates can be flexible between June 1 - August 9, 2019). Applications for these positions are made online.
