The Summer College Opportunity Program in Education (S.C.O.P.E.) invites applications for a College and Career Prep Instructor. This class presents students with skills and behaviors necessary for personal and academic success. The course/seminar provides information about college, education careers, academic and career planning. Instructor facilitates discussions, exercises, and out-of-class assignments towards understanding the purpose and nature of a college education. The course/seminar aims to help students develop skills for academic success such as, study strategies and information literacy; increase awareness and use of campus resources; reflect on personal and social issues that first year students will often face; become involved in the life of the University; and form beneficial relationships with students, faculty and staff. Applicants should possess a four-year degree; ability to evaluate and document student progress; knowledge of Penn State system, resources and services; proven ability to supervise, engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks, be flexible and work as part of a team; excellent work ethic, strong problem-solving abilities; effective organizational skills and be comfortable using computers and instructional technology. Preference will be given to applicants with college teaching experience; graduate students enrolled in the College of Education at Penn State University; have previous experience working with diverse learners and similar bridge programs. This position is a Fixed-Term 2 appointment for the 4 week summer program duration. Applicants should be expected to commit to 15-20 hours of work per week.
