Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive college of The Pennsylvania State University, one of the largest and most widely recognized institutions in the nation, invites applications for an academic administrative leader with a collaborative, creative vision for the position, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Administration, the Assistant Dean is a senior-level administrator who will provide leadership to academic support units and be committed to advancing the institution to higher levels of achievement. The preferred starting date is July 1, 2019. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs is to help set the direction and priorities for the College by providing leadership to the academic activity of the college, including academic support units, such as the Office of the Registrar, Honors Program, serve as liaison to Penn State World Campus, Continuing Education, Academic Advising and Learning Centers, International Affairs and the Center for Teaching Excellence. The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs will also: serve as a conduit of communication for official business of the college; provide curricular oversight and ongoing assessment of the academic programs and instructional activities of the college; support the promotion and tenure process of the university; prepare and evaluate annual budget requests; oversee academic activity, including advisement, scholarship, and academic discipline; develop and support the development of innovative programs and new majors; strengthen and expand technology and other services; promote working relationships with multiple and diverse constituencies; demonstrate effective administration of fiscal and human resources; advance the college’s commitment to inclusiveness, diversity, equity and affirmative action; and serve as liaison to other commonwealth campuses and Penn State, University Park. The preferred candidate will possess an earned doctorate and a record of achievement that qualifies them for appointment as a full professor with tenure in the college. The Assistant Dean will possess significant and proven experience as an academic leader and a record of excellence in teaching. Penn State Harrisburg seeks a senior administrator with an inspiring vision, excellent communication skills, exceptional financial management skills, a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion, and a successful record of faculty development, including experience with, and responsibility for, the promotion and tenure process. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of interdisciplinary collaboration, experience working with academic support units, developing new programs, experience managing institutes and centers and an understanding of the complexities of a multi-campus, land-grant university. Penn State Harrisburg is located in Middletown, near the city of Harrisburg, the state capital of Pennsylvania.
