This internship is a research and planning position for ongoing projects in the Palmer’s curatorial department, including research, collections management and exhibition planning. The main focus will be to research the Palmer’s collection of Japanese woodblock prints to expand object files with information about artists, printmakers, subject matter, narrative context and image text. Specific duties of this position will include: research art and artists related to the Palmer’s collection; participate in ongoing collection management projects including cataloguing new acquisitions and correcting existing records; assist with drafting interpretive text; assist with acquisition of rights for image reproduction; fact-check object files in preparation for exhibition. This position may also participate as needed with gallery installation projects and public programs. This internship is made possible by the Silver Trout Curatorial Graduate Internship Program. To be eligible for this position, you must be a Penn State graduate student in Art History or Art Education. Ability to read and translate Japanese text is strongly preferred. The Palmer Museum of Art is able to offer paid internships during the summer semester for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. Summer interns are required to work 20 hours per week at the museum for six weeks (exact dates can be flexible between June 1- Aug 9).
