Description

Provide administrative, academic, and professional support to the Department Head of Political Science. Evaluate and determine priorities of requests to Head and maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues. Schedule appointments, special events and meetings; compose routine correspondence; maintain calendars. Assist faculty in the compilation of promotion and tenure dossiers; gather SRTE data and peer review letters; provide administrative support to the promotion and tenure committee and head; maintain confidential promotion and tenure files for all department faculty. Provide administrative support for annual faculty review process, senior faculty reviews and non-tenured faculty promotions. May provide staff support to chairpersons of various department committees. Serve as liaison to the college Development and Alumni Relations office to coordinate large alumni and student events that include but are not limited to bi-annual alumni Board of Visitors meetings, career workshops, award ceremonies and Washington DC student-alumni dinners. Arrange travel for alumni guests, secure venues and arrange for payment and reimbursements for alumni events. Prepare invitations, leader letters and other correspondence to alumni. Manage stewardship activities for departmental funds, to include determinations of student eligibility and the awarding of student scholarships; assisting with donor acknowledgement activities; ensuring confidentiality of all alumni and development funds and donor information. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with the promotion and tenure process is desired, as well as being familiar with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Access, Excel), eSteward, and FAIS. Candidates must have good organization; be attentive to detail; have good teamwork, communication, and customer services skills; and have the ability to learn new software/systems as departmental needs change. Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately is expected.
