Description

A Department Head position in the Advanced Technology (AT) Department in the Communications Systems Division of the Communications, Information, and Navigation Office (CINO) is now available. Duties and responsibilities of the position are described below, and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. The AT Department focuses on the development of hardware and software electronic systems to provide advanced communication capabilities across multiple signal domains utilizing radio frequency (RF), electrical, fiber-optic, acoustic, and mechanical sensors in conjunction with state-of-the-art software defined radio (SDR) technologies. The AT Department Head is expected to develop, lead, and support the execution of interdisciplinary research and development programs utilizing advanced communication technologies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: operation and management of the department, including the preparation and execution of department budgets, strategic planning, and staff and resource development and utilization. This job will be filled as a level 4 or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 4. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred. The successful candidate must have a strong Systems Engineering background with a working knowledge across electrical, mechanical, computer, design for manufacturing, and materials engineering disciplines. The ideal candidates will have a demonstrated track record of interdisciplinary research and development leading to successful technology transition. Experience in rapid prototyping of electronic systems is highly desired. The ability to network and collaborate with University faculty who are engaged in applied research is desirable. Previous experience managing others is preferred. Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Travel is necessary and required. Applicant will be subject to a government security investigation. U.S. citizenship is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
