The Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center (PRC) at Penn State is seeking an experienced Financial Assistant to provide assistance to the PRC Financial Coordinator and leadership team. The PRC is a large, complex research center comprised of faculty members, research associates, research support staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. This vibrant, interdisciplinary research center is devoted to improving the health and well-being of children, youth, families, and communities. This position will provide critical financial support for annual operating budgets totaling approximately $15M across more than 40 grants and/or sub-awards from variety of funders. A critical function of this position is to oversee a large volume of financial transactions to ensure that they are completed accurately and in a timely manner, including processing and delegating tasks to support staff. The preferred candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented, and have the ability to problem solve and work independently. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Track, review, and audit purchasing card transactions to ensure that they are reconciled in a timely manner; input, reconcile and review of purchasing card charges and direct and assign a portion of these tasks to lower level staff; troubleshoot issues for PRC cardholders; input and review eBuy transactions, IDCCs, SRFCs and direct bills for correct accounting information; manage CRFN and BCDE for unit; perform cash handling functions; handle merchant settlements; reconcile cash accounts and resolve issues and problems related to cash; monitor restricted accounts; assist Financial Coordinator with clearing account; file and/or image documents as directed by supervisor; recommend budget adjustment to Financial Coordinator based on review of accounts; manage filing system; and assist PRC staff with basic inquiries and direct more complex issues to Financial Coordinator. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.
