Penn State's Office of the President IT group is seeking a highly motivated professional to join our staff as a Support Specialist. This person will be responsible for working with supported users and user groups to solve business problems with available technology including hardware, software, and University services. Primary duties include diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer reported incidents, planning and analysis of work processes and how IT could improve them, developing training materials, and maintaining a very high level of customer service with users. Candidates must be able to convey technical information to a wide range of IT savvy users at the appropriate level through phone, email, and in person. This role will also participate in conference room design and meeting with users to determine needs and how to most effectively and efficiently meet those needs. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This job places a very strong emphasis on customer service, and communicating status and plans with users is essential. The candidate must be open minded and have the ability to help users with diverse range of technologies. Strong listening, questioning, analytical, and verbal skills are highly valued assets in the candidate. Emphasis on building and maintaining exceptional relationships within the President’s Office and Board of Trustees community is a critical component of this job. Attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills are essential. Occasional nights and weekend work will be required. Travel required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
