The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking to hire an Instructor of Education to join our faculty in Second Language Education, and to work mainly within our English Language Learning and English as a Second Language (ESL) Certificate program areas. Primary responsibilities associated with this position are supporting and coordinating communications among CI 280 instructors across Penn State campuses, managing and teaching within a growing set of virtual tutoring partnerships and virtual tutoring sessions that serve emerging bilingual students, coordinating and supporting ESL certificate program and related courses, contributing to the development of new field sites, and facilitating development of hybrid versions of courses in Second Language Education. The successful candidate would have excellent interpersonal skills and competence in coordinating projects and in developing and nurturing partnerships with educational and non-educational entities. A Master’s degree in education or a related degree is required. Desired qualifications include: evidence of successful teaching experience with emerging bilinguals and in particular English learners, expert proficiency in English and high proficiency in a language other than English, experience living, working, or studying outside the United States, explicit professional preparation in teaching English as a second language, experience in establishing and sustaining partnerships, and experience as a learner or instructor in online teaching/learning environments.
