The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences is seeking a Research Technologist to be part of the molecular diagnostics and mammalian virology sections at the Animal Diagnostic Lab (ADL). The incumbent will be responsible for regulatory surveillance testing including avian influenza. In addition, the candidate is expected to perform other diagnostic bench work in the clinical microbiology unit as necessary. Duties include performing PCR assays, virus isolation, propagation, and virus identification tests. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preference given to those with a Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or molecular biology. Rabies vaccination is strongly recommended for this position and would be paid for and provided by the university. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
