Description

The Expeditionary Systems Department of The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking two Software Engineers with artificial intelligence/machine learning experience to perform research and development for the Department of Defense (DoD). We are not looking for someone who only wants to maintain legacy code or perform monotonous programming tasks; we want self-motivated individuals who want to use creativity to solve difficult problems in a dynamic environment where techniques, technologies, and requirements are not constant and where you will work as part of a team, but will have ownership of key parts of the software. This job will be filled as a level 2 or level 3 depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree (Master's degree preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Science and Technology is desired. Preferred experience areas include: Reinforcement learning; convolutional neural networks; generative adversarial networks; and/or Word2vec. Java and/or C++ and artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms experience is required. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. These are one-year, fixed-term renewable appointments.
