Description

Bursar/Student Financial Services - Loan Servicing and Collections unit is seeking an Accounting Assistant 5 who will be responsible for providing excellent customer service in the collections of loans and delinquent tuition for the University. Responsibilities include working with the Office of Student Aid on promissory note/disclosure file transmissions and serve as a liaison between the External Awards and Reconciliations Team and Loan Servicing and Collections Team under Student Financial Services to ensure proper maintenance of the student account portfolio. Responsibilities also include resolution of Credit Bureau disputes through an online system, correction of credit reporting errors, monitor Federal Perkins student loan reporting to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), maintenance of staff collection call logs for analysis, collection agency inventory maintenance, and daily servicing, collecting, and providing customer service to account holders of Federal Perkins student loans, Primary Care student loans, University funded student loans, and delinquent tuition accounts for the entire University. Respond to calls from student borrowers and their parents, and place outgoing collection calls on delinquent student loans and tuition accounts. Analyze accounts and provide solutions to meet the students’ needs while complying with Federal Regulations, state laws, and office policies. Additional responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of business process guides related to the functions of the unit. This position will also serve as a backup in supervising work study students. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Business Administration or related field is preferred. The successful candidate must maintain a high level of professionalism and the ability to meet specific deadlines, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing, strong organizational skills, and proven record of success as a member of a professional team are desirable. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software and knowledge of financial and student systems is preferred. This person will routinely be called upon to complete assignments, to communicate information, ideas and instructions and to participate as a team member within a diverse workforce.
