Penn State University Intercollegiate Athletics and Human Resources are seeking a dynamic, experienced, human resources professional to lead its Human Resource department (HR) within Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA). The Assistant Athletic Director/Human Resources Strategic Partner (HRSP) is a leadership position within ICA, which serves approximately 325 full-time and 1,500 part-time employees. This fast-paced and exciting opportunity will provide direct operational oversight and strategic planning for ICA HR by cultivating and sustaining a “best place to work” environment that fosters pride, accomplishment and team spirit. With a dual reporting relationship to leadership in both HR and ICA, the HRSP will partner to develop, plan, and implement strategic human resources functions for ICA, including employee relations, talent acquisition and hiring, diversity and equity initiatives, compensation and job classification, professional development, and succession planning. Additionally, in coordination with the Director of Athletics, the ICA Leadership Team, and Sport Administrators, the HRSP will develop, revise, draft and shepherd new and existing employment contracts. In collaboration with the ICA Leadership Team and the Penn State Human Resources, the HRSP will align and execute HR strategy with overall ICA strategic planning, and lead the implementation of ICA and HR services, policies, and programs. The HRSP will advise and consult with the ICA Leadership Team, Management Team, and Head Coaches on staffing and organizational plans; provide counsel on policies and practices; and examine, investigate and mediate complex human resources issues. The HRSP will champion ethical decision-making, positively impact equity and diversity in the workplace, and ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and University policies. Experience in strategic HR management, leadership in talent acquisition, compensation, employee relations, and performance management is required. Demonstrated competencies in the following areas will also be required: superior verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical skills; and a collaborative and flexible decision-making style. The candidate must have a passion for delivering high-quality service; the ability to develop and mentor staff; manage a diverse portfolio of projects; and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with various levels of faculty, staff, and administrators. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree or a law degree with progressively responsible strategic HR management experience in intercollegiate athletics, athletic conference administration or professional sports league administration preferred.
