Systems Design Specialist (Linux Systems Designer)

Penn State’s Core Infrastructure Linux group is looking for a Systems Design Specialist to architect the methodologies and systems used to configure, ensure proper operation, deliver and maintain Linux and UNIX operating systems and the core software deployed on those systems. The successful candidate for this job will be proficient in modern methods of systems deployment and management. Responsibilities include coordinating with the Technical Architect, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Project Managers, to ensure systems are designed to meet the needs of the organization. The selected candidate will work on a variety of projects, both independently and in teams. Strong communications and collaboration skills are a must. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Desired skills include CFEngine, Ansible, GIT, RedHat, Scientific Linux, Samba, NFS, and VMWare. Additional desirable skills include Kubernetes, Docker, Grafana, Nagios, AWS, Azure, and San storage technologies.
