Description

The Undersea Systems Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is looking for three (3) motivated, talented, and self-driven Engineering Support Specialists to join our Experimental Support Department, part of the Energy Science and Power Systems Division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Supporting the supervising technical/engineering staff with design, fabrication, modification, assembly, and testing of mechanical components and systems as well as the design, drafting, fabrication, and inspection of test fixtures and simple parts; Fabrication, inspection, calibration, and assembly of precision components and instrumentation into subsystems; Configuring test set-ups, data compilation, and documentation; operation, maintenance, and repair of test facilities and equipment supporting test facility operations; Operate computers used for data acquisition and control, CAD, and MS Office. Travel to field sites may be required. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher , or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Experience with the following is preferred: MIG, TIG, and stick welding; Using Microsoft Word and Excel; Autocad or similar systems. An Associates’ degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering/Specialized Technology, or Technical trade school/ Military Experience is preferred. Experience with the following is required: Proficiency in operating various machines and hand tools, detailed mechanical assembly, precision measurement, drawing interpretation, procedure adherence, as well as familiarity with standard mechanical troubleshooting tools and techniques. This position requires working in an industrial area with large, heavy, noisy, high energy equipment. This is a one-year fixed-term renewable appointment.
