Penn State's Department of Plant Science is seeking an individual with an advanced understanding of turfgrass pathology, turfgrass science and turfgrass management as it relates to fine turf. The successful candidate will develop, design, conduct, and manage research projects; present research results at various regional and national meetings; train, supervise and coordinate dally activities of graduate students and wage employees in laboratory and field experiments; schedule and maintain records of research equipment, maintain pesticide inventory, relevant MSDS library and safety SOPs; serve as Lab Manager and Lab Safety Representative for shared research laboratory; coordinate and ensure completion of safety training; manage purchasing of routine lab and filed supplies and equipment; assist with proposal/manuscript writing and grant submission. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in turfgrass management, agronomy, turfgrass pest management, or related discipline highly preferred. The successful candidate must be proficient in research practices in both laboratory and field settings including experimental design and implementation, treatment applications, data collection, statistical analyses and report writing. Excellent computer skills are required. The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences in a team environment. Ability to work independently, coordinate several projects simultaneously, and possess excellent organizational and communication skills are required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
