The Graduate Program in Acoustics at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus invites applications for an appointment as an Assistant Research Professor. The successful applicant will work with the others in the Graduate Program in Acoustics on sonic booms and specifically on the topic of secondary sonic booms, sometimes called over-the-top (OTT) sonic booms. The applicant will also interface with research and engineering staff at NASA, several industry partners, and the group’s primary sponsor, the Federal Aviation Administration. All requirements for a Ph.D. in Acoustics or a closely related field must be completed and direct research experience on the topic of sonic booms is also required. The successful applicant will have research experience with the PCBoom computer program, as well as extensive experience with Matlab. The successful applicant will have knowledge of modeling methods for acoustic propagation in the presence of atmospheric turbulence. The successful applicant is expected to work independently on projects identified by United Technologies Corporation Professor of Acoustics Victor W. Sparrow, assist with preparation of research proposals, conduct research, and document research results in refereed journal publications. This is a fixed-term appointment available for six months from date of hire.
