Description

The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Development seeks a highly motivated professional Academic Adviser. The successful individual will work closely with the Kinesiology Undergraduate Student Services team, i.e., advisors, undergraduate professor in charge, internship coordinator, honors advisors, administrative staff, faculty, and department head to provide an optimal experience and outstanding support for Kinesiology students. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for providing academic advising to students enrolled in and exploring majors in Kinesiology or Athletic Training; sharing career information with students and assisting them in identifying other educational resources regarding careers in Kinesiology and/or Athletic Training; meeting with prospective students and their families; interpreting university policies and procedures to students and faculty; guiding students in course selection, scheduling and long-range planning; assisting in resolving academic problems; making professional referrals; documenting and maintaining confidential advising notes and maintaining confidentiality of student records; monitoring student academic progress; other duties include contributing information to the department’s advising website. The successful candidate will represent the department and college in university-sponsored recruitment and retention initiatives including New Student Orientation, Accepted Student Programs, Spend a Summer Day, Link UP, and Majors Night. Competencies critical to success include outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communications; effective analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; the ability to handle multiple tasks; effective time management; and the use of sound judgment and professionalism. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Social Media, Starfish, PeopleSoft, Word, and Excel, is a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
