This position will be responsible for the review of clinical trials proposals, negotiation of agreements with sponsors, and the training and education of staff. Reporting to the Director of the College of Medicine Clinical Trials Office, the position will assist in the budget development process for clinical studies by evaluating proposals, performing analyses, reviewing budget justifications, and developing alternative scenarios, for clinical research projects, including investigator-initiated proposals funded by the federal government, non-profit, and industry sources. Through this process, the individual will review all protocols and research related documents, solicit quotes, and develop internal cost estimate. Frequent meetings and discussions with various research teams (investigators, research staff, financial analysts) to identify and address any potential concerns with the conduct of the study would be required. This position would be responsible for the coordination of proposal submission and contract negotiation with Office of Research Affairs paying particular attention to the funding guidelines, mandated regulations, and hospital billing compliance as directed by the Centers for Medicare Services (CMS). Relaying information between the research team and the sponsor would be a critical function of this role and would require the individual to work closely with research accounting, risk management, and legal counsel regarding contract and other special terms of agreements. The position will also be required to assist in the development, dissemination and implementation of best-practices via presentations, trainings, and other methods. The successful candidate should be a highly organized and independent worker who exhibits great attention to detail and interpersonal communications skills. Excellent organizational skills are necessary in order to meet time-sensitive deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the Clinical Trials Management System STAR, CATS-IRB and other institutional financial systems, be familiar with the research process and have a basic understanding of the contracting process at an academic health center. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Experience in an academic health center or higher education institution with an understanding of the contract management process preferred. This is a fixed term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding.
