The Lindner Lab at The Pennsylvania State University (http://sites.psu.edu/LindnerLab/) is recruiting an outstanding post-doctoral scientist for a NIH-funded (R01) project to focus on Cryo-EM studies of medically relevant proteins from the malaria parasite (Plasmodium) in collaboration with Dr. Susan Hafenstein. This scientist will benefit strongly from a state-of-the-art Titan Krios microscope (installed and operational fall 2017 in our building) with on-site experimental and computational infrastructure and support. A senior-level research technologist (established) and another post-doctoral scientist in the Lindner Lab will be key members of the team to facilitate these studies. We are looking for Ph.D. level candidate (or an individual who will receive their degree in the next 4-6 months) who is well trained in a related field. The Candidate will have at least 1 first-author paper in a peer-reviewed journal (either published or accepted), will have experience in molecular biology and microbiology techniques, and protein expression and purification (gravity flow, FPLC). The Candidate should be willing to learn and become an expert in all aspects of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Cryo-EM, including sample preparation, instrument use, and data analysis. Above all, the candidate must have a strong work ethic, superb organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail in order to be successful in this position. The Lindner Lab is part of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the main campus of Penn State University (University Park, PA), and is outfitted with several exceptional core facilities, including a world-class insectary. We are also a part of the Center for Malaria Research (CMaR) at Penn State, which is a collaborative community of 14+ research groups that investigate the entire life cycle of the parasite, as well as host-parasite interactions.
