Assist with conducting laboratory research associated with genetic transformation of specialty crops. The work will involve plant tissue culture regeneration, maintenance and characterization of transgenic plants (molecular and genetic). A significant component of the work will involve compilation and analysis of data and making observations of the plants at the phenotypic and molecular level and reporting those results on a frequent basis. The position will also include being actively involved in discussions interpreting those reports. A willingness to assist with laboratory organization, and general laboratory work is also expected (media preparation, plant tissue culture, microbiological methods). The position will also require documentation in association with compliance with APHIS permits and institutional biosafety committee (IBC) protocols. Collaboratively develop research methods and the monitoring of proper use of equipment. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A background in plant science or biology is preferred. An aptitude to work with Google documents as a platform for laboratory management, where additional experience with routine software is expected (MS Word, Excel in particular). A desire to learn resources used in the lab for information management is desired where we focus on open source (Mendeley for references, Benchling for cloning). This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
