Galaxy Project (http://galaxyproject.org) and Nekrutenko Lab are seeking a highly qualified Computational Scientist to work on the newly funded AnVIL initiative (http://bit.ly/psu-anvil). The individual that will be hired in this position is expected to successfully guide completion of open source academic projects from project inception to paper publication or poster presentation. This individual needs to be able to effectively communicate and create organizational structures to guide design and development of such teams and be able to organize and effectively prioritize requirements in such environments and work collaboratively to build a project roadmap. The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising lower level staff members in the Nekrutenko group. Typically requires a Ph.D. degree in a field of study with focus on computational research methods plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In this position we are looking for an individual of the highest skill level, who can effectively oversee all technical details of the AnVIL project components developed at Penn State and be a part of the technical leadership of the entire AnVIL team spanning PSU, Johns Hopkins, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the University of California at Santa Cruz and the University of Chicago. This individual must command unquestionable respect from his/her peers at these institutions and have a proven history of major software development efforts. This individual must have a proven track record of managing large open source projects and communities, and record of presentations, posters, and papers resulting from open source work. This individual must have strong development skills in Python, JavaScript, and PostgreSQL. Also experience in developing and/or deploying complex multi-container architectures and verifiable experience with container orchestration technologies. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding.
