Penn State Mont Alto invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position to teach in the Society of American Foresters accredited Associate in Science degree program in Forest Technology to begin July 2019. Responsibilities: Teach forestry and related courses such as but not limited to dendrology, silviculture, forest ecosystem protection, wildlife management, plant biology, and outdoor recreation, using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments may require day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Outdoor field labs are a core component of this curriculum. Advise students and provide career guidance; collaborate in recruitment and retention of students; participate in campus, university, and community service activities; engage in scholarly activities to stay current in the discipline. Assist with program assessment and development. Candidates may engage in research. Qualifications: M.S. or M.F. in Forestry or a closely related field. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Penn State Mont Alto is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 860 students; about 25% are adult learners. The campus is in south-central Pennsylvania in a rural setting adjacent to the Michaux State Forest. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as nine baccalaureate degrees and seven associate degrees. Students and faculty at Penn State Mont Alto have all the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small, and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
