Penn State Erie, The Behrend College invites applications for Director of the Center for e-Learning Initiatives. The Director reports directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and works in close collaboration with the Director for Teaching Initiatives to establish the departments’ joint and individual goals and future direction. The Director works in close collaboration with faculty and an instructional design team to design, develop, implement, and evaluate online credit and non-credit online and hybrid courses and provides pedagogical support for face-to-face courses. The Director will be expected to create, implement, and maintain a strategic program that will provide ongoing assistance to faculty for online and hybrid course development and revision. We seek a creative, flexible, and resourceful individual who will foster a team approach as they lead a growing department of instructional support staff, oversee project management, and provide training and professional development opportunities for project teams. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ph.D. strongly preferred. Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of educational and instructional design theories and must have substantial experience with course development and creation of engaging educational experiences. The successful candidate will have in-depth expertise working with Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) and will be able to assess and implement emerging educational technologies while applying proven strategies in learning design. Essential skills include the ability to communicate best practices in e-Learning to educators and staff, develop measurable course objectives, manage multiple projects and priorities, and apply creative thinking to develop new solutions in a fast-paced environment. Excellent technological, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain positive, effective working relationships with clients across the college and the university. Candidates must have experience with the financial aspect of project management to ensure that courses are delivered on time and within budget.
