Description

The Department of Statistics, at The Pennsylvania State University, invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor position. The chosen candidate will be working with Professor Dennis Pearl and other faculty with research interests in statistics education. Penn State has a large offering of introductory service courses, courses for statistics majors, and a full set of online offerings allowing for robust studies of pedagogical innovations. Penn State is also currently the headquarters for the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education (CAUSE: see www.CAUSEweb.org) and department faculty have been active in the development of new pedagogy for teaching statistics in both on-line and in-residence formats. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an innovative research program in collaboration with Penn State faculty and staff and/or other members of the statistics education community globally. The position includes no teaching duties during summer or fall, and will be assigned to teach two courses each spring semester (allowing those classes to be available to field-test innovative teaching and learning strategies). This is a fixed-term position with an initial appointment of one year and additional years upon satisfactory performance. Qualified candidate should possess a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Statistics Education, Educational Psychology, or other related field at the time of hire. Interested individuals must complete an online Penn State application (https://psu.jobs/job/84721) and apply online through Mathjobs.org at https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs, submitting all application materials including a cover letter and a CV. Review of applications will begin approximately February 15, 2019 and will continue until the position has been filled.
