Description

The Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is looking for experience, motivated, and self-driven Research and Development Engineers to join our Image Science and GIS Department which is part of the Cyber, Data and Image Sciences Division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing independent and leading research in Image, Data, and Geospatial Sciences; programming in multiple high order programming languages such as Python, Matlab, R, IDL; working in multiple technologies/disciplines to include machine learning, predictive analytics, data analysis, geospatial analysis, image science, and computer vision; mentoring and training less experienced scientists and engineers in personal subject matter expertise; and collaboratively working with other team members. Experience with the following is required: subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas (ADAR Imagery Exploitation, Activity Based Intelligence, Point Cloud Exploitation (LiDAR/EO Derived), Special Imagery Exploitation, Geospatial Analytics; and programming in higher order languages (Python, R, Matlab, IDL). Experience with the following is preferred: machine learning, leading research/ development teams, programming in compiled language (C++, Java). This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master’s degree in Image Science, Data Science, or Mathematics, Computer, or other Engineering is preferred. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year fixed-term renewable appointment.
