The Boni Lab in the Department of Biology at The Pennsylvania State University is recruiting a Research Assistant to work on software development of an epidemiological simulation used to evaluate malaria policy. Our lab’s research interests can be seen at Positions can begin anytime in 2019. Our lab is based at the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics at the Pennsylvania State University (University Park Campus). The Research Assistant will be funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Malaria Modeling Consortium (MMC), and the research will be integrated into MMC activities that currently include five institutions: Penn State, Institute for Disease Modeling, Oxford, Swiss Tropical Institute, and Imperial College. The first malaria questions to be investigated will be whether: the deployment of multiple first-line antimalarial therapies delays the onset of drug resistance; whether delaying drug resistance benefits other malaria control strategies; and whether drug-resistance evolution patterns differ by geographic settings. Specifically, short-term development assignments will likely focus on the transmission method used in the simulation and the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics model. The current version of the C++ source code can be found at the following URL: Candidates are encouraged to apply if they are interested in developing applied epidemiological skills through the use of computation, simulation, and new software development. The position requires knowledge of the C or C++ programming languages. The position requires a BS degree or higher in a computational field of study. The ideal candidate is someone interested in pursuing a PhD in computational biology or epidemiology. Applications must be submitted electronically. A complete application should include a cover letter detailing experience and research goals, a current CV, and contact information for three professional references. Review of applications will begin immediately and be ongoing in 2018 and 2019. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire, with possibility of re-funding.
