This position will serve as the Financial Manager 4 (Financial Officer) for the Dean of University Libraries, Vice Provost for Educational Equity, and the Vice President for Strategic Communications; reporting directly to the Corporate Controller’s office, with a dotted line reporting responsibility to the unit executives for the respective areas included in this job description. The Financial Officer will provide leadership in management of financial and budgetary matters for the unit, including strategic planning, financial analysis and reporting, and financial stewardship and is held accountable for sound financial management of the unit(s). Responsibilities include general financial management, budgeting, and compliance to policy. The Financial Officer is responsible for providing oversight of financial systems and guidance on related approvals, general salary increases, and other financial matters. The position will work closely with unit executives and the respective senior leadership teams to develop operation and capital need budgets and will monitor the spending against plans to ensure planned resources are available to meet strategic objectives. The person selected for this role will also serve as the liaison to central university offices in the areas of budget, payroll, risk management, purchasing, and others as needed, and is responsible for the coordination of internal audits and risk assessments. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge in financial and budget management, analysis and forecasting, and strategic planning and post award accounting for projects funded through grants. The person filling this role is fully accountable for the sound financial operation of the University Libraries, Educational Equity, and Strategic Communications and requires a high degree of self-direction, strong leadership skills, ability to lead and manage, and a strong commitment to inclusive practices that support diversity throughout the University. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with IBIS, LionPath, WorkDay, and iTwo is desirable. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to use diplomacy and advanced communication skills to persuade and influence a variety of people to achieve results. Ability to manage complex problems crossing multiple functional areas ranging from policy/procedural issues, risk/legal matters, and negotiations is essential. Commitment to continuous quality improvement is required. Due to the financial or fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
