The Invent Penn State initiative and the Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization in the Office of the Vice President for Research are seeking an experienced Marketing and Communications professional to lead and execute marketing and communications strategies for entrepreneurship and innovation related programs and events. This position will have direct responsibility for developing strategic branding, digital and physical marketing assets and traditional, digital and social media content for multiple organizations, programs and events that promote economic development, entrepreneurship, and innovation, including but not limited to, Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTap), Penn State Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Penn State Startup Week, Global Entrepreneurship Week, and the Summer Founders’ Program. In addition, this position is responsible for all marketing and communications activities that advance the goals of these organizations, programs and events through increasing visibility to internal and external audiences and garnering an increased level of participation by constituents inside and outside the University. This includes integrated marketing and communications plans with websites, e-letters, social media, print, public relations and media relations. This position will work at a high level of responsibility in a highly visible, accountable and fast-paced environment and is responsible for measuring activity and outcomes. This position communicates with internal stakeholders across Penn State academic colleges, administrative units, and Commonwealth Campuses as well as with external collaborators and audiences. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Invent Penn State initiative and will work with program directors and the Invent Penn State Marketing and Communications team to meet objectives. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The individual will have demonstrated ability working independently to achieve goals as well as working with team members to lead broad-based initiatives with many stakeholders. This position should be experienced at working with external vendors to manage large scale marketing projects such as complex website development; have proven project management skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with tight budget accountability; have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience with branding marketing large scale events. Excellent written and oral communication skills required, as well as experience working in multiple media platforms and competency with digital and social media. Strong initiative, self-motivation and high standards of excellence also required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
