Description

The Department of Meterology and Atmospheric Sciences is seeking an Administrative Assistant to support the Penn State EnvironMentors Chapter at University Park, and the Alliance for Education, Science, Engineering and Design in Africa (AESEDA). EnvironMentors is the National Council for Science and the Environment’s (NCSE) youth mentoring and college preparation program for underrepresented high school students across the country. This program teams a faculty member with an undergraduate student and high school student to develop a research project. We seek an engaging person who is interested in promoting diversity in STEM career fields through the EnvironMentors program. Responsibilities will include: assisting in organizing year long activities with faculty, undergraduate and high school students, ensuring compliance and maintaining accurate records related to minors who visit Penn State, assisting with maintaining websites and social media accounts, processing travel and making travel arrangements, assisting with grant administration, and assisting with annual reports. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required skills include: excellent written and oral communication skills, time and project management skills, web page management skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of or the ability to learn about STEM related fields at Penn State is a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding.
