Description

Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (psfei.psu.edu) is seeking a Condition Assessment Specialist with experience in commercial building construction and inspections to conduct facility condition assessments throughout Pennsylvania and review building construction documents for regulatory and using agency compliance. The institute provides facilities management and operations technical advice to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agencies. The successful candidate will interact with skilled labor personnel, design professionals, and facility administrators, and will be expected to work with on-site client representatives, project teams, and leadership. Responsibilities include: classifying building systems and components according to the Uniformat classification structure; estimating the size or capacity of building system components; estimating the remaining life of an asset; recognizing, categorizing, and quantifying asset deficiencies; gathering and understanding technical data to generate technical reports; and writing reports and technical narratives that are clear and concise. The position is based in State College, PA; however, moderate travel throughout PA is required (day and occasional overnight). The successful candidate will be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Performance of facility assessments also requires working in difficult work positions. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the commercial building construction and inspection industry is strongly preferred. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Security clearances required. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.
