Description

The College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State seeks to strengthen its tenure-track faculty in the area Graphic Design to begin fall semester 2019. Rank is negotiable. These are 36-week appointments with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments. Full University benefits apply. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching and creative research practice integrates the fundamentals of visual communication into contemporary and emerging design practice. We expect the successful candidate to contribute unique perspectives of design education to the undergraduate/graduate program and become a contributing member in the Stuckeman School that offers collaborative teaching and research opportunities across disciplines and the university. Qualifications: The candidates must have a terminal degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a comparable terminal degree (such as an MFA in Design, Master of Design or a Ph.D. in Design) at the time of appointment. A record of University level experience teaching, and evidence of successful design practices are strongly preferred. Successful candidates must have a strong understanding of typography and fundamentals of visual communication. Experience in one or more of the following areas is commendable: Motion Design; User Experience Design; CoDesign; and Design Thinking. Responsibilities: The position will include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Graphic Design Program. Candidates are expected to continue engagement in professional research activities. The position requires participation in usual departmental activities and to serve on departmental and college/university committees as assigned. Starting Date: August 2019 Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Penn State is an internationally highly ranked Tier 1 research institution and a land grant university.
