The Penn State Berkey Creamery is currently seeking a student intern to assist with development of new products as well as renovation of existing products made in the Creamery dairy plant. Primary duties include developing new products and associated activities such as sourcing materials and packaging, developing formulas, documenting manufacturing instructions, preparing product specifications, nutritional labels and other associated documentation. This is a hands-on position that requires preparation of lab and pilot samples as well as participating in plant trials should products go to production. The position requires creativity as well as attention to detail including the ability to translate efforts into documented formats such as summary reports or finished product packets. Student should have food science experience or similar exposure to food product development at the lab, kitchen or pilot plant level. Student must be able to work independently as well as with a diversified group of people. The position requires a minimum of 10 hours per week commitment and the candidate selected must be able to follow Good Manufacturing Practices for the food industry.
