The Smeal College of Business seeks an experienced Academic Adviser to work in a fast-paced, high energy academic environment. Extensive knowledge of University policy and procedures that apply to the matriculation and the academic, personal, and professional development of undergraduate students is required. Responsibilities include providing academic advising to undergraduate students, interpreting University policies, procedures and curriculum to students and faculty in the college, and guiding students in course selection and scheduling. Other duties include meeting with prospective students and families, participating in Spend a Summer Day and New Student Orientation and other programs as assigned. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Competencies critical to success include commitment to honor and integrity; academic advising knowledge and experience; excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to address challenging topics within the unit using clear and open communication; sensitivity to the needs of multiple stakeholders; experience working with a diverse body of students; demonstrated time management skills, which includes ability to manage multiple responsibilities; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; organizational skills; and working knowledge of computer applications. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Will work 30 hours per week 12 months a year. Full Penn State benefits included.
