Description

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is seeking a creative, independent, and knowledgeable web designer to join the marketing and communications team. The designer will be primarily responsible for establishing a creative vision for the college’s public-facing, Drupal-based website (ist.psu.edu) and collaborating with key stakeholders to refine and implement this vision. The Specialist will propose design ideas aimed at improving the existing site and delivering a better online experience for visitors. Responsibilities include defining the site’s visual layout to reflect the college’s brand identity, researching options and making recommendations for improvements to the site, and working with the college’s web developer on various web development projects. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders to actively manage the site’s content, facilitate testing to ensure a positive user experience, and review metrics to make strategic decisions about the site. The Specialist will also collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop graphics, text, and multimedia content for posting to the site, and will provide support for the college’s social media accounts. The Pennsylvania State University is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred applicants will have knowledge of HTML and CSS in the Drupal environment, as well as an understanding of Google Analytics and W3C accessibility standards. The candidate must have the ability to create design mockups (e.g. wireframes) for web-based projects. Skills and experience with website content management, photography, and/or videography, and using Adobe Creative Suite to develop visual design assets is a plus. Excellent communication skills, strong initiative, and high standards of excellence are required. Both a cover letter and resume must be submitted for consideration. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
