Description

Assist in the training of newly hired Animal Care Technicians. Administer medications orally, intramuscularly and intravenously; mix medications in the proper levels; give continuous intravenous medications and titrate to blood pressure or heart rate to maintain at proper levels. Utilize proper sterile techniques in handling medications and intravenous solutions. Recognize changes in proper function of drive units; monitor information; take proper action to correct and notify appropriate support personnel. Recognize and evaluate changes in animals’ physical condition; take proper immediate action, i.e., start oxygen, control bleeding, start IV’s etc. and call appropriate support personnel. Maintain detailed, accurate records of animals, data, medications, intake and output, etc.; understand and follow orders written by doctors and supervisor. Perform intensive care duties on a wide variety of animals with different operations and problems and perform routine care on stable animals. Perform laboratory tests as directed i.e., blood gases, hematocrits, clot times, etc. React properly to alarms and power failures. Maintain a clean environment by washing animals regularly, mopping floor three times a day, promptly and thoroughly removing animal waste, keeping fresh food and water in front of animals, keeping equipment, handling lights and pipes clean, and changing air filters regularly. Maintain inventory records and inventory at proper levels. Feed and care for animals in a humane fashion according to ALAS guidelines. Operate complex E-Motor control system. Restrain animal for blood sample, catheterization insertion, etc. Assist in the animal operating room as required. Assist in constructing artificial hearts in the laboratory as required. Enter data on the Tele Ray Terminal connector with the main computer at University Park. Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience. Shift: 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. Days Off: Saturday, Sunday Holidays
